Camp HERO (Here Everyone Really is One) was founded on the idea of creating a camp where 35-65 children and youth with hearing loss can enjoy a traditional camp experience while having no communication barriers. Every year 15-25 counselors, join our campers for the immersive, fun, activity-filled overnight camp located at Camp Victory in Millville, PA. Check out Camp Victory's website at http://campvictory.org/
Camp HERO has a board of directors with experience working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, a Camp Director, who oversees the campers and the day-to-day running of the camp. We also have an on-site Camp Nurse and Certified Sign Language interpreters available 24/7 during our time at camp.
What happens at Camp:
Campers arrive on Monday morning (eat breakfast before you come!) and campers will have time to unpack and settle into their cabins and meet their counselors. There will be time after lunch to enjoy a great afternoon swim and get to know a ton of new friends or catch up with old friends!
Throughout the week all of the campers enjoy a balanced schedule filled with fun activities based off of a theme. As campers are grouped by age, they enjoy communicating with other kids that are just like them!
The evenings, after dinner, are filled with Camp Victory led activities like fishing, rock climbing, zip-lining, nature center exploration, arts and crafts, hay rides, archery, and so much more!
One dessert throughout the week, we have the honor of being served homemade pies from the Pie Ladies (and on occasion Gentlemen!)!!!! They have such an assortment of pies and there is something there for everyone! We adore them and they create such a wonderful memory with us at camp.
One night, Camp HERO hosts a semi-formal event! The Dance is a fun night, filled with awesome music provided by a DJ and their BIG speakers and over the top light show!
Every camper knows the campfire is a major feature of camp! Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs are a great late night snack!
Crafts are always a hit, and many go along with the year's theme!
Games keep the Campers and Counselors hopping!
Trips to the Nature Center is a perfect way to learn about the beautiful surroundings while having fun!
Swimming is an every day activity!
Zip line and Rock Wall are perfect for those campers who like heights and excitement!
